Job Description:

Two Wildland Fire Internships are available for Warnell undergraduate students during the summer of 2024. Successful candidates will be paid through UGA as temporary employees from May 12 through August 9, 2024, but will work with US Forest Service – Savannah River personnel. Major duties focus on prescribed fire, fire suppression, and fuels management.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience in wildland fire, including previous or current “red card” certification and training. This requirement can also be satisfied by completing Wildland Fire (FORS 5600) during the spring semester of 2024. Specific qualifications include: maintenance of physical fitness; knowledge of standard wildland fire management program requirements, methods and procedures; knowledge of fire behavior, hazards, and accepted fire safety practices and procedures; ability to perform duties under stressful and adverse operating conditions, such as long work hours, heavy workloads, adverse working and environmental conditions.

Salary:
Interns will be employed by the University of Georgia and will receive an hourly rate of $14.38, which is equivalent to the current federal entry-level hourly rate for this type of position. Opportunities to earn overtime and hazard pay will likely occur. This is a temporary position without benefits.
