This position serves as the supervisor for a working field unit of 3 Natural Resource Specialist 2 employees. It is a working supervisor position responsible for the coordination of all activities required to produce a viable timber harvest schedule for an assigned geographical area. This includes coordination of the planning, preparation, and contract administration of an assigned timber sale volume. In meeting the assigned target, the Unit Forester is required to train, mentor, and lead employees assigned to the unit. The position also must respond to public and other agency requests relative to state lands management within the district.

 

Responsibilities:

 

--Implementation of a 5-year forest management plan on an annual basis for the assigned unit, including timber sale layout and design, contract compliance, and silviculture prescriptions.

--Management of assigned work unit to include: assigning work, reviewing sale-related documentation for accuracy and quality, forest road maintenance, conducting and directing staff in contract administration duties, and implementing public use policy within assigned unit.

--Develop and maintain a 5-year harvest plan.

--Supervise a work unit of 3 NRS 2s.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

 

--Knowledge of principles and practices of the forestry profession as applied to the Northwestern United States (i.e., fundamentals of silviculture of Northwest species, sales layout, logging methods, engineering, reforestation, and intensive forest practices.

--Experience and ability to correctly use topographic maps, aerial photos, compass, clinometer, radio, laser rangefinder, and GPS equipment.

--Proficient computer skills such as MS Word, MS Excel, and ARC-GIS, with an aptitude for learning new software as needed.

--Knowledge of timber sale layout.

--Experience with contract compliance.

--2 years of professional forestry experience.

--Experience implementing current forest management plans, Forest Practice rules, the Habitat Conservation Plan, the Policy for Sustainable Forests, and other policies, procedures, and statutes applicable to natural resource management.

--Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.

--Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.

--Ability to think critically, analyze, and make decisions in a dynamic and sometimes stressful environment, and work both independently and as part of a team to reach agency and region goals.

--Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to resolve conflicts, write effectively, and communicate with diverse groups both internal and external.

Salary:
$56,676.00 - $76,188.00 Annually
