Job Description:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

-Plan and execute annual forest management activities including site preparation, regeneration, competition control, nutrient management, removals, and other activities to drive long-term value and sustainability. 

-Assist Regional Manager in developing and administering budgets and capital plans, managing production costs, and submitting and executing contracts.

-Apply professional/technical knowledge of soils, silvics, genetics, and forestry practices while developing and growing an understanding of the managed resource. 

-Contribute to company involvement in various industry cooperatives and professional groups participating or leading internal improvement projects, operational trials, and research studies.

-Develop and maintain knowledge of contractors, capabilities, and equipment available for silviculture operations including chemical and mechanical treatments, fertilization, and harvesting.

-Manage contract requests and relationships with service providers executing silviculture treatments and activities to ensure quality and meet forest management objectives.

-Monitor BMP and EMS compliance to ensure sustainable forest management systems, implementing stewardship initiatives contributing to certification programs including SFI and FSC.

-Utilize GIS systems, inventory, analysis, modeling tools, and other forest management software to make informed plans and decisions.

-Actively support and lead as part of the company safety program exhibiting safety as a core value.  

-Provide support to the land and real estate team identifying opportunities and contributing to acquisition and sales processes.

-Support harvest scheduling, inventory, and planning as well as timberland infrastructure development and maintenance operations.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forest Management or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in silviculture and forest management activities
  • Must have, or able to obtain, Registered Forester's License
  • Competent with Microsoft applications
  • Technical knowledge of forest inventory systems and computer programs such as WTS, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Ability to forecast, budget and monitor silviculture plans and forest operations
  • Ability to lead and influence others, evaluate opportunities and make informed decisions

Preferred Experience:

  • Working knowledge of ESRI products
  • Experience as a prescribed burn manager
  • Possess a chemical applicator licenses

We are looking for an experienced Resource Management Forester to join our team at our Cahaba Region facility.  

The Resource Management Forester will primarily be focused on planning and executing sustainable forest management activities as a member of a regional team consisting of foresters and other resource professionals. The Region encompasses approximately 150,000 acres of company-owned timberlands in Central Alabama.  As stewards of the land our foresters employ research-based, site-specific silvicultural and operational tools to maximize the health, growth, and value of the resource, working with and through internal teams, service providers, and contractors to accomplish defined management objectives.
