Deadline: Mon, 12/18/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit within the Division of Biology, Kansas State University Job Field: Fisheries Job Type: Assistantship Location: Kansas Location Detail: Manhattan, Kansas Job Description: The priority 2-3 year research project for which we seek a graduate student immediately will finish building and testing an adaptive management framework that integrates Kansas fish monitoring data (n=8800 samples), empirical habitat data, and GIS impact data to create innovative visualizations and an interactive statistical model related to future stream fish data and native fish restoration needs. This project has the potential to make a novel and substantial contribution to native stream fish conservation. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will value science as a way of knowing; be highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative; be driven to make an impact in resource conservation; enjoy working with data; have some knowledge of R, GIS, and statistics; have some knowledge of and an interest in ecology; and be excited about breaking new ground for data-driven conservation. Applicants for PhD degrees should have an MS in aquatic ecology, fish ecology, statistics, GIS, computer science, or a related field. Applicants for a MS degree should preferably have a BS in one of the above fields. Highly-motivated individuals who can work independently, as well as with others, are preferred.
