Job Description:

The USEPA Office of Water led the development and delivery of a nationally capable, web-based, watershed modeling system called HAWQS (Hydrologic and Water Quality System) which is based on the USDA Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). HAWQS Version 1.0 is a web-based interactive water quantity and water quality modeling system that can assist states, local governments, and other assessors with water quality protection and decision-making. The system employs as its core modeling engine the internationally recognized public domain model SWAT. HAWQS Version 2.0 is under development with ORD to include additional water quality modeling capabilities for freshwater waterbodies and coastal and estuarine systems nationwide. We are looking for a talented postdoc to participate in one or more of the Version 2.0 research and development efforts linking upstream climate and land use drivers to: changes in downstream water quality impacts, including scenario analyses for climate change adaptation; evaluation of best management practices for nutrients and sediments; and protection of drinking water supplies. Version 2.0 will also include integration with NOAA’s National Water Model (NWM) archived data and forecast capability for 2.7+ million streams nationwide. NWM archived data for the continental US includes 40 years of retrospective records.

Qualifications:

PhD in Physical Science, Hydrology, Engineering, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related disciplines
