Salary: $80,034.00 - $93,347.00 Annually

To allow for growth and salary progression the full salary range is: $80,034.00 - $98,261.00 Annually

 

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an opening for our Pacific Crest District Manager, in the Pacific Cascade Region. The Pacific Crest District Manager is responsible for the recreation and natural areas programs on approximately 455,000 acres located in the Pacific Cascade Region. The position oversees the development of region planning, program guidance, and priorities for maintenance and operations in these two programs. The District Manager will communicate and coordinate program management with stakeholders, volunteers, adjacent landowners, tribes, and other government entities. Management of the program’s budgets, including capital and grant administration is also a key responsibility in supporting programmatic and agency goals.

 

Responsibilities:

 

--Plan, organize, and lead staff in accomplishing program deliverables, including the management of the region's recreation and natural areas programs.

--Supervise up to 14 employees in the district, two of which are direct supervision.

--Monitors expenditures for programs as needed and adjusts budgeted resources for program implementation.

--Works collaboratively and builds partnerships with stakeholder groups and the public.

--Works collaboratively with the region management, region, and division program managers to ensure program deliverables are met.

--Plan and conduct public meetings concerning public use and stewardship in the region.

--Build and enhance partnerships that will assist in the coordination of acquiring materials and equipment and completing recreation construction projects.

--Manage the Recreation and Natural Areas budgets.

--Work with the Natural Area Managers in developing management plans for the region's Natural Areas.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

 

--A Bachelor’s in forest management, recreation, ecology or natural resource management or closely related field, and 5 years of experience managing forest land and/or natural resource recreation. –OR—Two-year associate degree in an environmental or natural resources field, and 7 years of natural resource or recreation work experience.

OR equivalent Education and Experience.

--Experience with:

-Managing personnel and experience directing the activities of a diverse, professional staff

-Maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring all communications and actions promulgate safety.

-Solid understanding of Trust Land management and principles, Habitat Conservation Plan, forest practice rules, Policy for Sustainable Forests, Sustainable Forestry Initiatives standards, and trust management theory and principles.

-Principles and practices of the forestry profession as applied to the Northwestern United States. This includes fundamentals of Silviculture, Norwest tree species, SEPA, managing competing vegetation, reforestation, invasive species, recreation, multiple use, water quality, watershed management, planning, and basic principles of wildlife and aquatic species management.

-Facilitation, collaboration, negotiation, and conflict resolution

-Broad multi-disciplinary experience in the forest management field and staff operations

-Experience setting performance standards and expectations, training, developing, evaluating, coaching, and documenting performance.

-Demonstrated ability to motivate and hold staff accountable using performance-based recognition.

Salary:
$80,034.00 - $93,347.00 Annually
