Job Description:

Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Harvest Manager to join our Southern Timberlands team. The Harvest Manager is part of the Mississippi Alabama Region and reports to the Meridian Wood Flow Manager. The position is officed in Meridian, MS and requires significant driving time to and from logging jobs and field time planning and managing harvesting operations. The Harvest Manager is a key contributor and integral to the success of the Meridian Area and Regional goals.

 

 

As a Harvest Manager, you will be a key member of the Meridian Team and responsible for contract administration and the execution of harvesting/transportation strategy to meet plan volume and market commitments. Key functions include field verification of harvest plans, in-woods recon information, harvesting contract negotiation, harvest operation supervision, contractor safety plan compliance, product merchandizing and utilization, timely system updates, monitoring of contract performance, assurance of acceptable thinning quality, ensuring environmental compliance, addressing contract noncompliance and performance issues, and the management of logging road maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field OR equivalent years of experience; degree with at least 2 years of experience is preferred

Commitment and ability to role model and promote a safe work environment

Basic negotiation skills

Ability to determine and use conversion factors between alternate scales and weights

Understanding of quality specifications for raw material at all customer markets and how log characteristics affect delivered raw material and standing timber values

Ability to use cost, volume, quality and other supplier data to evaluate performance

Knowledge of and ability to recognize conformance to safety, environmental, labor and transportation laws and regulations as they apply to the harvesting function

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills

Willing to work in a self-motivated, self-directed environment where time management is essential

Understanding of total system concepts and a demonstrated ability to work across businesses and organizational boundaries

Proficient in Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel and various other computer software and applications

Willing to work outside in all weather conditions

Possession of a valid Driver’s License and ability to safely operate a vehicle

Ability to safely maneuver in and around active harvesting sites (typically means maneuvering uneven ground and being around heavy equipment that is in operation)
