Deadline: Sun, 12/03/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Full Time Location: Florida Location Detail: Tallahassee, Florida Job Description: This exciting and highly technical position serves as the program coordinator for the Habitat Assessment and Restoration Program (HARP) within FWC’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation, Wildlife and Habitat Management Section (WHM) and leads a dedicated team comprised of one Fisheries and Wildlife Biological Scientist III and five Fisheries and Wildlife Biological Scientist IVs in providing informational support to WHM staff to achieve enhanced wildlife management outcomes on the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) system. The incumbent will get to travel to visit lands FWC manages and meet the staff doing the management to influence how lands are managed. The HARP Coordinator administers four primary programs that each provide support to our land managers. The Land Management Information System is a database that stores land management and monitoring data. HARP staff administer the contract for technical support of this database, assist staff in using the tools, and run analysis in support of agency reporting. Objective Based Vegetation Management is the program we use to collect data on natural community condition by looking at specific vegetative attributes and land management history. Restoration Coordination is the program that provides support to area staff restoring natural communities on altered acres or applying management to enhance natural community condition to acres that have been fire suppressed. The Wildlife Conservation, Prioritization, and Recovery Program works with WMA staff to ensure management is meeting the needs of listed and other locally-important species. The HARP coordinator oversees all of these programs and influences their direction and is also part of the WHM leadership team. Other duties include providing oversight of contracts to obtain biological data and technical support and overseeing the four previously mentioned programs including making budget requests and overseeing budget allocations. The FWC embraces collaboration, and the person in this position will collaborate with other FWC sections and divisions regarding imperiled species and serve on agency teams addressing important agency issues. The incumbent also assists with the application of prescribed fire on WMAs and wildlife monitoring efforts as needed and time allows. Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This advanced position requires experience in and enhanced knowledge of wildlife and habitat management, the ability to supervise staff and administer budgets, and good communication skills. The ability to effectively work on multiple simultaneously running projects, the ability to troubleshoot issues, and the ability to be a team player are important. An understanding of Florida’s natural communities and land management techniques is essential as is knowledge of data management. Level of Education: Preferred bachelor’s degree in a life or physical science and experience in wildlife management. Preference will be given to applicants that have experience/education with ArcGIS and database administration, combined with knowledge of land or wildlife management. Miscellaneous: Working hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday; may require some night or weekend duty.
