Job Description:

Examples of duties:

  • Travel throughout assigned territory to account for, and take inventory of, designated forest plots in accordance with USFS requirements.
  • Locate or re-locate, establish and re-establish permanent forest plots using specialized forestry tools and equipment.
  • Identify ownership of the land on which plots are located using the local county records.
  • Conduct measurement and re-measurement procedures on various forest ecosystems.
  • Identify and classify forest stand histories, land use changes, stand management opportunities, and various types of forest vegetation and ecosystems using common and scientific names and terms.
  • Meet productivity and accuracy requirements; incorporate and conduct quality control inspections within forest resource data collection processes to establish technical accuracy
  • Cooperate with, and learn from, USFS QAQC staff to maintain and improve skills and accuracy.
  • Conduct ancillary studies to improve forest inventory data collection, statistical modeling, and processes, such as felled tree volume, severance tax, and forest products output studies. 
  • Produce, develop, and incorporate various reports, records, correspondence, etc.
