Job Description:

To perform professional forestry work in a district or on a statewide basis in a variety of forest management, forest fire control, forest health and urban forestry programs.To regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the programs and make necessary changes.To work closely with the public, soliciting their inputs and cooperation in carrying out programs.To be responsible for a program of forest management, timber stand improvement, forest road and trail construction and maintenance, harvesting and lumbering operations.To provide assistance to organizations and individuals on public and private woodlands, and to provide assistance to woods operators and primary processors to improve markets and operating efficiency.To be responsible for a program of forest health involving planning, programming, budgeting and implementing forest health monitoring and survey activities statewide.To identify problems and needs relating to the establishment, maintenance and protection of trees and shrubs in urban and rural areas.To work with state and local officials, coordinating activities with other divisions and agencies.To perform public relations activities related to these programs.To give testimony in court as an expert witness for the state.To prepare correspondence and technical reports.To represent the division in district and/or statewide contact with private and public agencies and organizations.To provide technical advice to landowners, loggers and sawmill operators involving the harvesting and marketing of forest products.To supervise timber stand improvement, harvesting and reforestation operations on state owned forestland.To patrol timber areas for harvesting or for data gathering related to inputs to forest management plans.To recognize the symptoms of tree diseases and insect and animal damage, and to recommend proper controls.To supervise the use of pesticides on state owned forest land.To review and compile data for Environmental Impact Statements as they relate to forest resources.To represent the department at scientific conferences and public meetings, and to assist in a program of public information and education, as it concerns state forestry programs.To do related work as required.
