Job Description:

The Upper Midwest Water Science Center is looking for highly motivated individuals to support data collection efforts for USGS projects, such as monitoring water quality conditions in streams across the upper Midwest. These field assistant positions will be primarily during the summer, with opportunities for intermittent work during the off-seasons.

There will be on-the-job training to learn USGS techniques and methods, and we are looking for candidates that can bring additional skills to the position. There are many experiences outside of college or a formal science education that may have given you skills that are relevant to this position. We hope you’ll consider applying if you have a willingness to learn new things and have skills or experience in working outdoors, fixing or troubleshooting electronics, navigating waterbodies, using power tools, or using or collecting data. This job will be full time during the summer, with the option of intermittent work in the off-season; if you are currently enrolled in college, we may be able to work around your class schedule during the school year. Employment as a Field Assistant is a great way to gain the valuable experiences the USGS has to offer, as well as contribute to the understanding of water issues that are impacting your communities. Field Assistants will be responsible for the collection of data for a wide range of water related studies and will include learning water-quality measurement techniques, data entry, and analysis skills to help USGS meet its goals.

Salary:
$12.34 - $25.48 per hour
