The Jones Center at Ichauway is currently accepting applications to fill a temporary full-time (40 hours per week), Seasonal Technician position in the Ecological Silviculture Research Lab.

The position will begin January 10, 2022. The length of the appointment is four months but could be extended based on performance and project needs. The employee will work closely with the Silviculturist and Research Associate on longleaf pine stand dynamics and soil carbon and nutrient research. The employee will also conduct inventories of trees on plots associated with the Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change project. Duties may include cutting saplings to determine tree age, collecting soil cores, and mapping groups of trees in multi-aged stands.

This work will occur at the 28,500-acre research center, which is in southwestern Georgia between Albany and Bainbridge. The Jones Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. The site includes 16,000 acres of longleaf pine forests, over 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 26 miles of stream and river ecosystems.


The successful candidate must have strong desire to work in both the field and laboratory settings. Experience with data entry, tree ring analysis, and processing soil samples is preferred. The ability to work and communicate well with others is required.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or a related field. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

$12.00 per hour with on-site housing provided
