Job Description:

Assist the Brunswick GA DNR Wildlife Conservation Section office in their ecosystem restoration and management efforts in the coastal region. This work will include conducting habitat management practices to benefit game and nongame species and natural communities. Specifically with groundcover restoration projects on the coastal, with a special focus on WMAs in the Altamaha River Corridor. This position will also assist with invasive species management and assessment in this region.

 

GA DNR staff operate a native groundcover seed production nursery, and this position will spend much of their time helping to manage this facility. This includes wild seed collection, seed germination/plant propagation, mowing, weeding, mulching, irrigation construction and maintenance, in nursery seed harvesting, seed cleaning and storage, restoration seed dispersal. This position will assist with potential restoration site evaluation to help determine where to prioritize groundcover restoration.

 

GA DNR staff also conduct invasive species management on the various WMA’s in the coastal region and this position will assist with these efforts. This will include helping to supervise seasonal Student Conservation Association interns during the summer-fall field season. This work entails mapping, herbicide mixing and application, using various tools including backpack sprayer, hatchets, machetes, chainsaws (if trained), other herbicide applicators. Invasive treatment methods include, cut stump, hack and squirt, foliar, and some biocontrol releases.

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, horticulture, natural resource management, or a discipline closely related to plant ecology.

Salary:
$14/hour
