Join the vibrant team at American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) as a Client Accountant in Houghton, Michigan. Reporting directly to the Client Accounting Manager, this role pays a pivotal part in managing accounting functions for multiple clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounts receivable processes, possess excellent communication skills, and be capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.

AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Position will be responsible for multiple client’s accounting functions to include, but not limited to:

 

-Perform day-to-day AR accounting functions

reconcile scale slips to weekly settlements, invoice mills, deposit checks and apply mill payments

-Prepare sales agreements, update rates in accounting software.

-Responsible for all accounting functions for our private landowners and investment clients.

-Prepare sale contracts, ticket entry/reconciliation.

-Work with corporate office (Charlotte, NC) with invoicing & tracking payments.

-Assists in reconciling and reviewing client accounts and researching issues as needed.

-Reviews, analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient and effective client accounting processes and procedures.

-Provide a high level of customer service to assigned clients and all participants by creating a positive relationship with both parties.

-Special projects and other requests as needed.

 

 

Additional Requirements:

 

-Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or finance or a combination of education and relevant work experience

-Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience

-Strong communication skills and attention to detail

-Experience in managing a team is a plus but not required

-Ability to work independently and as a team

-Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Suite products

-Knowledge of FPA, LIMS, InFocus, Yardi, and timber/delivered sales accounting is a plus but not required

-Soft Skills: Communication, attention to detail, analytical thinking, time management, ethical judgement, teamwork, organization skills, and leadership.
