Assistant Area Forester

We are seeking an Assistant Area Forester to join our Western Resources team. The position offers a rewarding opportunity for an individual to be directly involved in on-the-ground activities related to land management with the objective of maintaining long term production of company owned timberland in Western Oregon. In this essential role, you will join a team that embraces creative problem solving, teamwork and initiative. This position will be based out of our Gaston, Oregon office. Daily job sites will vary throughout Northwest Oregon.

Assistant Area Foresters are responsible for land management and forestry operations within their assigned fee lands area. Along with the Area Manager, and depending on their level of experience, the Assistant Area Forester may perform and support any or all the following tasks:

• With direction from the Unit Manager, utilize forest inventory information to maximize efficiency of timberland management, regarding harvest plans and road construction.
• Responsible for the field layout and permitting of planned harvest units.
• Assist in road layout, construction, and maintenance activities.
• Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and administration of individual contracts to carry out forest management activities.
• Actively participate to maintain security and fire protection on Company forestland.
• Assist with silviculture activities.
• Help collect and maintain inventory and GIS records by using inventory and GIS software to prepare reports and records pertaining to areas harvested and accessed as well as land use classification.
• Provide input for the team’s budget and forecast process.
