The Jones Center at Ichauway invites applications for the temporary position of Wildlife Ecology Seasonal Research Technician. We will hire a technician to collect data during the fall/winter field season of a study evaluating effects of feral swine removal on natural resources in Southwestern Georgia. The full-time seasonal position (40 hours/week) will provide the opportunity to work collaboratively with USDA Wildlife Services specialists, wildlife graduate students, and researchers at The Jones Center at Ichauway. The position will start in September and will run for 6 months, with potential for extension. Start and end dates are somewhat flexible. On-site housing is provided on an as-available basis (no pets allowed).

The 29,000-acre Research Center is located in Southwest Georgia, 30 miles south of Albany, Georgia. The Center's research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. The site includes 16,000 acres of longleaf pine forests, over 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 26 miles of stream and river ecosystems. For more information visit our website at www.jonesctr.org.

Job Duties: The main duties will include monthly trail camera checking, camera and camera location maintenance, vegetation sampling, communication and coordination with landowners, data management, and image processing and other duties as required. In addition, technicians will take part in observing drone flights. Work will be conducted during the day and, in some cases, in extreme weather conditions.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a background in wildlife biology, ecology, or related field. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Experience using trail cameras is preferred. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicants must be able to work individually and as a part of a team, follow instructions, neatly and accurately record data, carry loads up to 50 lbs, and perform other duties as required. Applicants must be able to work in high heat and humidity and tolerate buggy conditions. Venomous snakes and poison ivy are common throughout our research areas.

Salary:
Wages: $11/hour, depending on education/experience, with on-site housing provided, or $12/hour if no housing is provided. No benefits package is available.
