Amazing Student: Giles Moree

Undergraduate Degree: My undergraduate degree was in Forestry at Warnell and I graduated in May of 2015.

Master’s Degree:
I am currently working towards my MFR in Forest Business. I plan to graduate in December of 2016.

I have lived all over the state of Georgia because my dad is a high school football coach. Currently my parents are living in Cumming, GA but after being at UGA for 4 years, Athens has become my home.

Warnell/UGA highlights, achievements and awards:
During my time at UGA I have been a part of many things on campus, including being Vice President of Forestry Club. I am a brother of the Alpha Eta chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. I was also a member of the forestry conclave team where I did crosscut at Virginia Tech in 2014 and pole classification at Mississippi State in 2015. I have been a member on 2 National SAF quiz bowl teams and one SESAF quiz bowl team. While working towards my Master’s degree I am also working at TimberMart-South.

I chose to attend Warnell because...
Growing up I was always outside in the woods playing and hunting, so it was simple, why not choose a degree where you get to do what you love to do in your free time as well as at work.

My favorite place on campus is:
My favorite place on campus would have to be Sanford stadium. Growing up a Georgia fan, Sanford has always been one of my favorite places to be, not just as a student. I remember coming to football games as a kid and saying that one-day I would graduate from UGA. So being a graduate and now working towards my second degree, the stadium holds a special place in my heart.

When I have free time:
I just love to be outdoors so when I have free time I really like to be somewhere outside hunting, fishing, or playing some kind of sport.

The best class I’ve taken in Warnell is…
Picking a class that is the “best” is hard to do. I have had so many classes that are great and I don’t think I could choose just one. But one that does stand out in my mind would have to be Forestry Field Camp. I loved spending three weeks traveling the southeast looking at different aspects of the forestry industry.

After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation I would love to become a private consultant. Working with private landowners and being able to use the information that I have learned at Warnell to help them achieve what they want with their land.

The one Warnell experience I will always remember will be...
The year that we went to Virginia Tech for conclave and all but 2 of us ended up catching a stomach bug. We would drive out to the site just in time for an event that we were competing in, then go right back to the hotel to get back in bed. This may seem like a weird experience that stands out, but every time my group of friends that went on that trip gets together, it always comes up.
