   The Treehaven Resident Ecolgist contributes to and enhances the College of Natural Resources’ Treehaven mission as the Wisconsin center for integrating natural resources education, research, land management and outreach. 
   Overall this position will develop and implement stewardship, outreach, and academic activities that: 
   • Promote and enhance stewardship of the Treehaven land base. 
   • Increase Treehaven’s visibility through academic and public outreach. 
   • Enhance CNR’s mission through innovative teaching and research at Treehaven. 
   • Increase program and grant revenues. 
   • Build capacity in natural resources professional development for the state of Wisconsin. 
   • Maintain communication and coordination with Treehaven Director, Treehaven program staff, and faculty and staff in the College of Natural Resources. 
   Primary Responsibilities: 
   Stewardship 35% 
   • Implement, evaluate, and revise (when necessary) the Treehaven Land Management Plan (TLMP) in coordination with Treehaven Director and appropriate Treehaven and CNR committees. 
   • Serve as liaison to the appropriate Treehaven land management committees. 
   • Coordinate all logging and other land management activities in conjunction with the CNR Land Management Committee and the Treehaven Director. 
   • Coordinate and/or conduct Treehaven site surveys and establish an ongoing, long-term system of natural and cultural inventory. 
   • Develop, coordinate and maintain an information system and protocols for site research and educational activities. 
   • Assist with coordination of research activities on Treehaven lands. 
   • Review with Treehaven Director and coordinate NEON’s spring-fall sampling protocols to ensure no conflicts with CNR research and programming. 
   Outreach/Service 35% 
   • Serve as resident ecologist/naturalist available to assist teaching Treehaven’s public and school programs related to land management, forestry, and Northwood’s ecology. 
   • Develop/coordinate and implement programs and professional development opportunities for forestry and land management professionals. 
   • Market Treehaven to forestry and land management professionals as a location for meetings, workshops, and trainings to increase program revenue. 
   • Develop relationships with WI Department of Natural Resources and other relevant state, tribal, and federal agencies/departments to increase professional development offerings at Treehaven. 
   • Assist when possible in developing opportunities for learning experiences for other colleges and universities. 
   Academic: 25% 
   • Coordinate and supervise teaching of the Plant Identification Course during the CNR Summer Field Experience including supervising the Plant Teaching Assistant (TA) and working with faculty to organize weekly plant walks and the final exam. 
   • Facilitate the integration of new research and natural resources management activities into the summer session. 
   • When/where appropriate teach credit and non-credit courses at Treehaven in land management or other topics to be determined. 
   • Serve on the CNR Land Management Committee. 
   Miscellaneous 5% 
   • Other duties as determined by the Treehaven Director. 


   Required Qualifications: 
   • Master of Science in Natural Resources or related field; either Masters or Bachelors in Forestry 
   • Demonstrated abilities and experience in land management activities. 
   • Minimum 3 years full-time experience. 
   • Ability to provide leadership, work independently, and within a cooperative team. 
   • Experience developing and managing budgets. 
   • Strong demonstrated abilities in personal and public communications including oral and written forms. 
   • Experience using land management field equipment including tractors, skid steer, chainsaws (including all appropriate training certifications). 
   • Competency in computer use and field computer equipment including GIS software. 
   Preferred Qualifications: 
   • Experience writing timber sales and in contract administration. 
   • Successful teaching experience at the university level. 
   • Experience in Forestry Consulting 
   • Experience in successful workshop/conference coordination. 
   • Record of scholarly achievement in research and publications. 
   • Experience in grant writing.
