Maerz was recently honored at the international joint meeting between the Herpetologists' League, Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles, and the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists. Maerz was surprised with the Meritorious Teaching Award in Herpetology in recognition of "exceptional teaching and mentoring." Maerz said he was humbled by the honor, but no one at Warnell is surprised he was chosen for this award.
