As State Forester of the Kansas Forest Service (KFS) at Kansas State University, you will provide leadership, expertise, and management to the programs and employees of the agency.
Your responsibilities will be to:
•Guide direction of all programs within KFS
•Contribute to the success of KFS personnel meeting plannedprogram goals
•Advocate for KFS at state and federal levels
•Represent KFS with federal, state, local, and private naturalresources agencies
•Prioritize and budget resources within KFS to satisfy the needs of diverse stakeholders while meeting required deliverables
The Kansas Forest Service is the 5th oldest state forestry agency in the country established in 1887, and is housed as an independent agency within K-State Research and Extension. The agency employs 35 full-time employees, and 40+ temporary and student positions, housed in Manhattan, KS and offices throughout the state. Our programs include Rural Forestry, Community Forestry, Fire Management, Conservation Tree Planting, Forest Health, and Marketing and Utilization. •A person in order to be eligible to be appointed to, or hold theoffice of state forester must have completed the requirements forand be the holder of a degree from a school of forestry approvedby the board and shall have a record of experience in forestrysatisfactory to the board. • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, or closely-related
degree from a school of forestry (Society of American Foresters
• Master’s degree
• 3-5 years of business administration and leadership
• Excellent written and oral, interpersonal, organizational, and
