Job Description:

At the full performance level of the target conversion position (GS-09), you will:

  • Serve as a park ranger as part of a multi-disciplinary team for a large Corps lake and dam, responsible for the
    overall management of specific assigned programs or for the management of a portion of the project.
  • Includes administering some or all of the recreation use fee, contract park attendant, volunteer, visitor
    tabulation, project sign, water safety and interpretive programs.
  • Perform a wide variety of assignments involving all aspects of project operations such as: recreation management,
    contract administration, shoreline management, forest fish and wildlife management, and environmental
  • Patrol project land and water to provide visitor protection and assistance, and to interpret and enforce rules and regulations.

Positions are open to:

  • Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. 
  • Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty.  Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion.

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Recent Graduates Program.  Click here for more information on Pathways program participation.  After Program completion, Department of the Army Recent Graduates MAY be converted to a permanent position or to a term position (a project-based term of employment lasting between one and four years).

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must:

  • Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
  • Demonstrate successful job performance.
  • Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted

The J. Strom Thurmond Project Office/Dam is in a rural lakefront location in Clarks Hill, SC on US Highway 221. It is approximately 25 miles from Ft. Gordon and Augusta, GA, home of the Masters Golf Tournament. It is approximately 140 miles E of Atlanta, 80 miles SW of Columbia, SC, and 130 miles NW of Savannah, GA. The population for the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), which includes Augusta/Richmond County is approximately 770,000.
