Job Description:

The incumbent in this position will be expected to assist in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Ecological Monitoring Surveys (EMS) group, which is responsible for conducting multiple biological field studies utilizing trawl gear on small and large vessels and on board commercial fishing vessels. Under broad supervision, supports biological and technical staff during the collection of data used to manage Georgia’s seafood industry and marine recreational fishery. Responsible for the maintenance and operation of small research vessels in Georgia’s territorial waters


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associate's degree in Marine Sciences or a related field from an accredited college or university.


Completion of equivalent coursework (90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours) in Marine Sciences or a related field from an accredited college or university.


High school diploma or GED


Two years of experience in the Coastal Resources Division at the lower level Marine Technician 1 (NRT050) which included responsibilities in marine operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference may be given to applicants with:

 Experience in the deployment and retrieval of trawl gear (large and small vessel)

 Good overall physical condition. Able to lift gear and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds

 Experience in identification of southeastern Atlantic marine organisms (finfish/crustaceans/etc.)

 Strong navigational skills and the ability to operate small vessels in coastal waters

 Experience in field sampling methodology and equipment

 The ability to work at sea, often for long periods and in adverse conditions

 SCUBA diving experience

 Strong oral communication skills and ability to liaison with members of the fishing industry and general public

 Current working experience with DNR
