The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is seeking qualified candidates for a term limited (3-yr minimum), full-time coordinator position overseeing hunting and shooting sports recruitment, retention and reactivation (R3) programs in the state of Arkansas. This position is a cooperative effort between the NWTF and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) and will be responsible for coordinating and collaborating with various partnership organizations to assess gaps in current hunting and shooting sports R3 programming. The position will have statewide duties with a preferred living location in central Arkansas. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing efforts to develop and coordinate clear and measurable pathways for hunting and shooting sports R3 in Arkansas. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed. 

Essential Functions: 
   • Create a framework for collaboration between stakeholders that provides the foundation for enhanced communication and coordination of hunter recruitment programs based on models of success 
   • Work in coordination with existing hunting and shooting sports outreach staff in Arkansas to expand capacity for programs that fill gaps in R3 efforts 
   • Work with NWTF outreach coordinators within the 8 AR districts to facilitate collaborative efforts 
   • Develop a mentoring coalition focusing stakeholder efforts on common goals 
   • Assess the various gaps that exist in recruitment pathways in Arkansas 
   • Expand capacity within new and current stakeholders for programs that fill current gaps in recruitment, retention and reactivation efforts 
   • Develop tools to enhance the identification of potential participants for hunting and shooting sports outreach efforts 
   • Utilize “R3 Tracker” to assess existing programs 
   • Submit press releases through partner media outlets to publicize the partnership and any hunting/shooting programs or events. 
   • Develop an R3 steering committee and coordinate bi-annual meetings to report accomplishments and guide position direction 
   • Assist in blending of the National Hunting and Shooting Sports R3 plan with state efforts 
   • Write an Arkansas step-down plan based on the Council to Advance Hunting and Shooting Sports national plan. The plan will include strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of current state programs, the development of a strategic plan with goals and objectives, action items, a timeline to implement the plan and metrics to gauge success 
   • Assist the NWTF AR State Chapter with the implementation of the R3 strategic plan objectives within the “Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt.” program. Specifically, coordinating and expanding mentored hunts 
   • Align new and existing mentoring efforts/outreach programs with models of success 
   • Coordinate efforts to evaluate current and new programs 
   • Develop mentored hunting clubs (social networks) with key partners including youth and family organizations; coordinate efforts to reengage lapsed hunters 
   • Maintain data matrix to monitor hunting demographics in Arkansas for program analysis 
   • Work with Hunter Outreach Coordinators to create and implement a template for mentor selection and development in Arkansas 
   • Assist with various programs where applicable, including: NWTF and other partner education/outreach programs, expos, mentored hunts, Becoming an Outdoors-Woman/Family, Outdoor Discovery Programs 
   • Maintain close working relationship with local and state volunteers and agency staff


   • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an science-related natural resources field, education, or communications 
   • Experience in performing above or similar duties 
   • An understanding of Arkansas conservation organizations, hunting, fishing and shooting sports, and local/National hunting and shooting sports partnership efforts 
   • Understanding of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation 
   • Ability to work irregular schedules including some weekends, evenings and overnight stays 
   • Excellent communication and organization skills 
   • Ability to work with limited supervision, self-motivated and able to motivate others 
   • Able to work with diverse audiences 
   • Experience preferred in administering and coordinating outdoor education programming, partnership development and support, and volunteer management 
   • Knowledge of current R3 efforts both locally and Nationally 
   • Ability to think and act both creatively and strategically to further hunting and shooting sports R3 efforts 
   • Experience with strategic planning and leading diverse stakeholder groups in planning efforts
