Applying for Graduation

An application for graduation must be filed with the Graduate School within the first two weeks of the semester of anticipated graduation date. Graduation Application forms are submitted through Athena.

Notice of Examination

Students are required to submit the Notice of Examination form via online survey ( at least three (3) weeks prior to their examination (Oral, Defense, or Comprehensive Exams). In order to reserve a room for an examination or defense, check room calendars & layouts here and then email (You do not have to confirm your exit interview date to submit the form.) 

Exit Questionnaire and Exit Interview

Exit Questionnaire and Exit Interview are a required part of the graduation process. The Exit Questionnaire must be submitted at the exit interview, which is conducted by an officer of the Warnell Graduate Student Association. To schedule your interview, you must contact the WGSA vice president.

Late Filing of Graduation Forms

A graduate student who misses a graduation application deadline by failing to file the Application for Graduation, Advisory Committee Form, and/or completed Program of Study Form will have the option of paying a single fee of $50 (check or money order in U.S. dollars) for late processing of all required forms. A completed Late Filing for Graduation Form, all required graduation forms, and the late fee payment must be submitted to the Graduate School Office of Enrolled Student Services within 45 calendar days of the original deadline. After the 45 day late period, no students will be added to the commencement roster for the current semester.

Changing Graduation Date

To request that Enrolled Student Services change your graduation date if you are unable to complete degree requirements, you should email The Graduate School will cancel your current application, then you will be able to submit another graduation application through Athena for a future semester.

Warnell School Convocation Ceremony

To honor both our undergraduate and graduate students who are graduating each fall and spring semester, Warnell holds a separate convocation ceremony. Summer graduates are invited to be recognized at the fall ceremony. The program includes a student speaker chosen from among the Warnell graduates and a guest speaker from the Alumni Association. Be sure to let your family know that the date of the ceremony as soon as possible, so they can make arrangements to attend!

Fall/December Graduation Ceremony
The Warnell ceremony begins 30 minutes following the undergraduate UGA commencement, at approximately 12:30 p.m. and will take place at the Classic Center Grand Hall, North Thomas St., Athens. 

Spring & Summer/May Graduation Ceremony
The May ceremony will recognize both spring and summer graduates. It will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will take place at the Classic Center Grand Hall, North Thomas St., Athens.
