The seasonal crew member position is part of a five person crew that will assist the northern and southern resource managers on Georgia State Parks land. This will include all aspects for Rx fire (fire line construction and prep work), equipment maintenance, and conducting Rx fire. Other jobs would possibly include fish habitat work, native plant restoration, exotic plant control, and in the event of weather, storm clean-up. Crew members can expect many days of physical labor, running a chain saw, raking around trees, for fire prep work, in all types of weather. Crew members will receive Wildland Firefighter Training (S130, I190), first aid/CPR, and chainsaw training. Applicants must be able to pass the work capacity test - being able to carry 25lbs for 2 miles in 30 minutes, or 45lbs for 3 miles in 45 minutes. Applicants must be willing to travel several days up to a week at a time from base.
Progress toward or degree in natural science or ecology preferred. Any experience running small engines, portable pumps, chain saws is a plus. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about ecology, and land management.
