Job Description:

Forester will be exposed to all aspects of Heritage Habitat & Forestry services, including:

• Management plan formulation and writing

• Client engagement and services

• Timber cruising

• Timber sale administration

• Other associated tasks

 

Approximate breakdown of primary functions as follows: timber cruising (25%), management plan formulation and writing (50%), other tasks (25%).

 

Position involves frequent out of state overnight travel for timber cruising contracts including weekend travel and work. Typically, timber cruising assignment includes Sunday travel to lodging, Monday – Saturday cruising, Sunday travel home.

 

Work will exceed 60 hours per week on out of state overnight timber cruising assignments. In those instances, flex scheduling will be available. For example, employee works 70 hours from Sunday to Sunday in Week 1, employee is only then required to work 10 more hours Week 2, remaining work days that week are given off without any use of personal time off.

 

Hours are highly flexible and irregular, including flex scheduling. Opportunity for career advancement available.

 

Qualifications:

• 2 or 4-year degree from SAF-accredited college in Forestry or related field

• Ability to obtain SAF Certified Forester within 5 years of hire

• Ability to obtain West Virginia Registered Forester immediately

• Ability to hike several miles per day in rough terrain with unpredictable weather conditions

• GIS college courses and/or experience

• Excellent writing skills

Our focus is simultaneous management of commercial timber production as well as wildlife habitat in line with our clients’ goals and objectives. Most of our forest management plan formulation is geared toward multiple use forestry, timber production and wildlife habitat enhancement. We offer a suite of natural resources consultant services, including advising landowners through several Forest Carbon programs available in their state.
