   Copperhead Consulting is seeking one permanent and up to three temporary Forestry/Habitat Restoration Technicians. Temporary technicians may be offered an extended term. These positions will conduct forestry and habitat management operations including timber stand improvement (TSI), herbicide application of non-native invasive plant species, forest inventory, and timber sale marking. TSI will be the primary activity for this season and is conducted to improve foraging and maternity habitat for forest dwelling bats, remove invasive species, and release crop trees to increase regeneration of desirable tree species. The position requires strong summer and winter tree identification skills, invasive herbaceous plant identification skills, knowledge and experience in TSI operations (preferred), and herbicide application. The position requires that the individual be, or become, a state certified pesticide applicator in Kentucky. Treatments will be conducted via chemical and mechanical means. 

   Primary Duties and Responsibilities include: 
   • Work as part of a team conducting forest management activities.. 
   • Work as part of a team to spray herbicide on invasive herbaceous species. 
   • Apply pesticides by direct injection, basal, and foliar methods. 
   • Use pesticides according to the manufacturer’s label. 
   • Conduct TSI using mechanical methods, to include limited chainsaw use for girdling and felling. 
   • Follow detailed instructions to complete required tasks. 
   • Maintain tools and equipment. 
   • May work under close supervision or infrequent supervision. 
   Working Conditions/Physical Effort 
   Position will require working in variable weather conditions on rough, rocky, uneven terrain at remote locations under physically demanding circumstances. Position may also require: 
   • Considerable physical exertion including the ability to lift objects up to 40 pounds 
   • Require long hours in isolated settings 
   • Require ability to work varying and flexible work schedules, i.e., through weekends 


   Minimum Qualifications and Characteristics: 
   Knowledge and experience: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in forestry, wildlife management, or related science is preferred. Previous similar work experience may be substituted for education. Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems; knowledge of forest and wildlife management techniques preferred but not required; and the ability to identify trees and plants by species is required. Ability to maintain a Kentucky Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License is also required. 
   Technology: Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., manual and powered sprayers, chainsaws, Global Positioning Systems [GPS units], all-terrain vehicles, and 4-wheel drive vehicles). 

   Physical: Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, random drug screenings, and background investigation. Ability to perform physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather.
