   NWTF Forester – North Carolina 
   The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is seeking a qualified candidate for a term-limited (minimum of 3 years), full-time Forester to work in south-central North Carolina. The position is part of a multi-year collaborative effort between the NWTF and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to increase capacity for technical assistance to private landowners through implementation of forestry programs, Working Lands for Wildlife and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program – Longleaf Pine Initiative. Work will be conducted with NRCS field offices, agency partners, and other NWTF staff with the preferred duty station being in the Carthage, NC area. 
   • Work cooperatively with the NRCS state and local offices, agency partners, and other NWTF staff to provide technical assistance to landowners utilizing forestry programs, the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW) Program 
   • Provide landowner consultation, eligibility evaluations, and conservation plan development 
   • Conduct outreach activities to include landowner workshops in identified focus areas 
   • Promote the initiatives through landowner and agency contacts 
   • Generate program applications that lead to conservation plans being developed 
   • Address significant forest health issues affecting important habitat for a suite of game and non-game species 
   • Manage all aspects of planned project work including budgets, necessary reporting, and completion of established deliverables 
   • Develop geospatial aspects for all project work including the development of Arc maps outlining landowner properties, forest stands, and recommended conservation practices 
   • Promote accomplishments via NWTF, agency public relations, & media outlets 
   • Provide support to NRCS for implementation, checkout, and certification of planned activities utilizing conservation practice standards, specifications, and job sheets. 
   KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Preferred candidates should possess experience working in Southeastern ecosystems and be knowledgeable on associated forestry / wildlife management techniques; map reading and GIS/GPS technology, ArcGIS skills; ability to effectively communicate and work with the general public, state / federal / NGO Partners, other cooperators and peers; ability to collect and record metrics regarding activities within the NWTF’s reporting systems; proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office including spreadsheets, internet use, and computer applications. 


   • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from a SAF accredited program 
   • Strong organizational skills, networking, communication (ex., verbal, presentation, inter-personal, writing), project management, and leadership ability is preferred 
   • Experience working with private landowners as well as Federal / State agencies with working knowledge of cost-share programs such as EQIP (NRCS) 
   • Ability to use Excel, ArcMap, Google Maps, and other computer mapping systems, including Trimble GPS, to identify and delineate project boundaries 
   • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and social media 
   • Able to work in a wide range of field conditions often requiring rigorous physical activity 
   • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, produce effective results, and meet deadlines; applicant must be self-motivated, responsible and have ability to solve problems 
   • Applicant may be required to participate in specific training programs, to use partner facilities and equipment. 
   • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and will be based out of an NRCS office in the Carthage, NC area. 
   This position will require moderate overnight travel. Excellent benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience.
