Job Description:

   Under limited supervision, prepare forest habitat management plans to improve wildlife habitat using proven silvicultural methods and techniques, while maintaining forest integrity. Submit annual forest management project proposals following established guidelines. Meet legal requirements for timber sales; prepare accurate timber sale information packets using the bid process; conduct timber sale inspections to ensure contract and Best Management Practices compliance by contract loggers. Accurately mark and cruise timber. Prepare stand maps using GIS software and make long term forest management recommendations. Ensure the Georgia Environmental Policy Act guidelines for each forest management practice are followed. Assist Game Management regions with prescribed burning and provide technical advice when needed. Monitor contractors performing silvicultural activities such as timber harvest, site preparation, reforestation and road work on State Owned Wildlife Management Areas. Maintain and update timber databases for assigned WMAs. Deployment to natural disasters and severe weather events are required for this position. Must be able to obtain Georgia Registered Forester status.


   Minimum Qualifications:
   Master’s degree relevant to the specific subprogam area from an Socieity of American Foresters (SAF) accredited college or university can be substituted for two of the three years of job related forestry experience
   Bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or closely related area that includes core forestry coursework from an Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited college or university
   Three years of job related forestry experience
   One year of experience required at the lower level Forester 3 (NRP022) or position equivalent
   Preferred Qualifications:
   Preference may be given to applicants with:
   1. A Master's degree in Forestry from an accredited Society of American Foresters college or university
   2. Experience managing forested habitats for wildlife
   3. Experience in GIS mapping using ArcView software
   4. Registered Forester status with the State of Georgia


   Applicants must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or be eligible to obtain a CDL. Those hired in a position requiring a CDL who do not possess a CDL will be expected to obtain a CDL within 12 months to perform their job.
