Job Description:

Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Forest Operations Coordinator, performs forestry operations under the concept of multiple-use management, emphasizing watershed protection, soil conservation, timber production, wildlife propagation, and recreation.

 

 

Essential Duties: Assists the Forest Operations Coordinator with the planning and execution of all silvicultural operations. Assists in budget preparation and monitors expenditures and revenues monthly. Coordinates tree planting activities for reforestation, soil stabilization and wildlife propagation.

 

Assists various departments regarding tree removals and re-vegetation programs. Works with the Forest Technician to perform forest cultivation and protection activities, including timber stand improvement, wildlife habitat improvement and insect and disease control. Verifies outer boundaries during forestry operations and documents issues and encroachments for their resolution. Coordinates with Engineering regarding monumentation. Surveys and documents encroachments. Maintains and updates compartment/stand inventory of all forestlands. Maintains the forest inventory of timber stands and forest management records of the MWCD. Coordinates property line fence agreements and inspections with adjacent landowners. May assist in collecting and processing water samples in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in forest resources management or related natural resource field is required. Within this curriculum, multiple-use emphasis is desirable. Minimum of one year experience in forestry operations is required. Chain saw and Best Management Practices certification is required (after employment). Computer skills, particularly knowledge of Trimble data recording systems and Land Mark Software and experience in the use of forest resources inventory and data collection systems skills are desirable. Knowledge of ESRI software is desirable. Current driver’s license valid in the State of Ohio is required.
