GWR currently manages approximately $1.8 billion of assets or commitments. GWR’s corporate office is located in Portland, Oregon. We are seeking an intern to join our team for 10-12 weeks during the summer months. Overall Responsibilities The primary responsibility of the Summer Intern – Economics/Finance is to complete a research project on a focused topic. Possible research topics may include, but are not limited to: financial analysis of stand improvement activity; markets for ecosystem services in an international setting; optimization of transportation networks; forest product price analysis; and portfolio analysis of foreign currency exchange rate volatility. The research project will culminate with a final written report and an oral presentation. Responsibilities may also include the support of operations, acquisitions, or other investment management activities. Limited travel to sites in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong performance in quantitative courses.
  • Graduate-level work in forest economics and/or finance.
  • One to two years of related work experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills drawing on statistics, econometrics, and/or operations research methods.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to speak a second language (e.g., Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, or Romanian) is desirable.
