Job Description:

The Fiber Supply Intern program gives students real-world exposure to the fiber supply chain which provides raw materials to International Paper pulp and paper mills. Fiber includes: pulpwood, chips, recycled fiber, and fiber fuel (biomass). Intern roles are typically three month assignments, but this can be tailored to meet the needs of individual students..

 

Main Responsibilities

This position reports to the facility Fiber Supply Manager or Fiber Specialist and the student becomes a working team member at that facility. Activities are divided among the mill, field, and office, and include some or all of the following:

• Timber security compliance

• Environmental, sustainability, and BMP inspections and research

• Fiber quality assessments

• Wood cost, inventory, and wood receipts data analysis

• Supplier relations and wood procurement opportunities

• Financial summary reporting

• Special projects: each intern will develop a special project to conclude at the end of the internship. Projects are typically supply-chain related and can focus on variability reduction, waste elimination, process improvements, environmental challenges/opportunities, sustainability, etc.

 

Qualifications:

Candidates should have successfully completed at least one year in pursuit of a degree in Forestry, Pulp & Paper Science, Agriculture, Business Management, Marketing, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Sustainability Management, or a related field. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership abilities, as well as proficiency in analytical and communication skills.
