Job Description:

The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a full-time, eleven-month, tenure-track position (75% research and 25% teaching) in forest wildlife ecology and management. Approximately 28% of Oklahoma is forested and these forests include a number of forest types including: oak/hickory, shortleaf pine/oak, loblolly pine, oak woodland, juniper woodland, and riparian. These forests provide wildlife habitat, wood products, recreation, and other ecosystem services to the region.

We are seeking a candidate that can contribute to and expand our research program in the ecology and management of forested systems of Oklahoma, with an emphasis on wildlife-forest habitat relationships. Broadly, we are seeking a candidate whose research bridges forest and wildlife ecology and management. We are open to applicants with all areas of interest related to wildlife-forest habitat relationships. The faculty member is expected to work closely with multidisciplinary faculty in forest, wildlife, range, and other natural resource disciplines to meet the needs of diverse stakeholder groups. Additionally, we are seeking a candidate that will be able to complement and strengthen the needs of our wildlife teaching program. Specific courses taught will be based on the candidate’s expertise and needs of the department. The successful candidate will also assist with undergraduate advisement.


Requirements include a Ph.D. in wildlife ecology and management (with experience in managing forested systems), or forest ecology and management (with an emphasis in wildlife ecology and management), or related field. Candidates should have knowledge of forest wildlife habitat relationships related to forest management. Documented evidence of effective oral and written education skills, an understanding of the land-grant mission, and a strong interest in working with landowners, stakeholders, and land management agencies is required. Evidence of the ability to conduct both independent and collaborative programs with other faculty and natural resource professionals, to develop and maintain an active research program, to publish peer reviewed manuscripts, and to seek and secure extramural funding to support a research program is required. The candidate should also have the ability to develop an effective teaching program and mentor students.
