Georgia Forest Fire Recovery Program

Document Actions

Southeast Georgia timberland owners affected by the state’s largest recorded wildfires have suffered terribly, both economically and psychologically, as a result of watching years of investment in time and resources destroyed, sometimes in a single day. Whether the fire burned thousands of acres of industrial timberland, or engulfed a family-owned timberland of less than one hundred acres, the fire has set affected timberland owners back and left many with a sense of helplessness as to what the future holds for them.

The faculty, staff and administration of The University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources understand the discouragement these timberland owners are now feeling and have a strong sense of obligation to assist them in their recovery efforts. Therefore, we have developed the “Georgia Forest Fire Recovery Program” (GFFRP) to provide immediate relief to fire fighters, recovery information and opportunities for affected landowners, and coordination of scientific research about this historic event.

The GFFRP is continuing to grow as opportunities are presented to us, so please re-visit this site regularly to find the latest information on landowner meetings and recovery opportunities. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, send an email to Eugene MacIntyre or Mike Mengak and they will respond to your inquiry just as soon as possible.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
