Redesigned Web Site Launched
March 11, 2009Well, the day has finally come…. Mark Cherry requested the DNS change this morning to point www.warnell.uga.edu to the new site. At the moment we are waiting for UGA to make the change and for it to populate the DNS servers worldwide. This is my least favorite part of redesigning a web site – it is rather stressful because you usually get some sort of surprise, and in public no less.
I would like to officially thank the many people who helped make this project possible (in no particular order):
Heather Brice – my student worker who entered mountains of data, performed boring and repetitive tasks, willingly learned esoteric skills, and kept a great attitude throughout it all. This site really could not have been completed without her.
Ron Hendrick – for his undying support, encouragement and guidance with learning about how Warnell works.
Keith Martin – for his patience with my endless questions, knowledge of servers and networking, and his willingness to teach me on a level I can understand. Good luck in the new job, and I will surely miss you!
Matt Howell – for his help in keeping the old web site running and his willingness to share his expert knowledge of web servers and Plone.
JP Bond – for his invaluable eye for design, sensitive suggestions on how to improve the look of the site, and his amazing photographs.
Rosemary Wood – for her enthusiasm even when faced with the daunting task of rewriting and reorganizing the entire Graduate section of the site.
Jim Sweeney – for his immense help in gathering materials and text for the Research and Outreach sections of the site.
Reena Berwal – for her thoughtful input on content for the Alumni and Giving sections of the site, and her smiling face.
Sandi Martin – for her constant supply of new content, patience in waiting for the new site to launch, and her understanding of the limitations of resources and web applications.
Morgan Nolan – for her helpful suggestions, cross-browser user testing, and a new seminar video every week.
“The Emilies” (Saunders and Lakemaker) – for their input on how to improve the Undergraduate and student-focused sections of the site, and for encouraging the Warnell student leaders to adopt the new site.
Malissa Russell – for keeping my computer running and happy.
Mark Cherry – for his help with keeping the servers running, networking knowledge and management.
DWEEBS – the UGA Web Developers Group, for their insights, support, encouragement, and vast knowledge of all things web.
Warnell School – for their patience in waiting for the new site, and input about how to best make it work.
I’m sure I’ve left out a number of important people, but please know that this new site could not have been developed without everyone’s input. As I continue to develop and build it, your feedback will be invaluable.
