Dr. Sarah Covert, professor of forest biotechnology at UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is one of the many scientists who participated in the Department of Energy Joint Genome Initiative (DOE JGI) analyzing the first complete DNA sequence (genome) of a tree. The Envirothon is a hands-on, high school academic competition on the environment. There are two levels of competition, the regional competition, a one-day format, and the state competition, a 2-day format. Testing at both competitions involves visiting five stations, forestry, wildlife, soils, water, and cultural landscapes.
