A Fish Tale
Jay Shelton, associate professor of fisheries and Kris Irwin, public service associate, conducted an “Aquaculture: Materials and Methods for Teaching” workshop for ag education teachers this summer. Held at the Cohutta Fisheries Center July 7-9, 2004, the workshop provided the basics of aquaculture. The 21 participants received hands-on experience and easy to use technical reference materials during the 2.5 days.
Topics included aquaculture, water quality, fish culture systems and fish health. Participants were encouraged to make connections between the aquaculture curriculum and other subjects such as math, chemistry and vocational subjects such as electrical systems and plumbing.
