Evaluation of Applications and Admission Status

Evaluation of Applications

The WSFR Graduate Affairs Committee is responsible for oversight of the application process. The evaluation of applicants for admission does not begin until all documentation has been received, including all transcripts and letters of recommendation.

An applicant is recommended for admission if he/she meets the minimum requirements necessary for the degree and a faculty member is willing to serve as major professor. For students who do not meet minimum requirements, the Graduate Affairs Committee will assess the application. Following a positive review, and if a faculty member is willing to serve as major professor, the application will be recommended for admission. In all cases, if no major professor is forthcoming, an applicant will be refused admission. The Dean of the Graduate School has authority to approve or disapprove the WSFR recommendation.

Admission Status

Admission Categories

A student may be admitted to the graduate program in one of three categories:

Prospective Degree Candidate: A student who has been admitted without conditions to either of the three degree programs (MFR, MS, PhD) offered in the WSFR is a prospective degree candidate.

Non-Degree: An applicant who wishes to take courses for professional advancement, licensure, or certification purposes, and who holds a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited institution, may apply for non-degree status following the procedures outlined in the Graduate School Bulletin.

Transient: Transient admission may be granted to a student who wishes to enroll for one semester at the University of Georgia and is in good standing at an accredited graduate school.
