The faculty and administration of the Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is pleased to announce that Craig Alan Miller, Ph.D. has accepted an offer to fill the new Assistant Professor in Human Dimensions faculty position. Dr. Miller will begin his new duties on July 1, 2006.

Previously an Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University’s (LSU) School of Renewable Natural Resources, Dr. Miller will be the third full-time faculty member in the Warnell School’s new Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism (NRRT) program. He also lists a five-year tenure as a Leader in the Human Dimensions Research Program at the Center for Wildlife Ecology, Illinois Natural History Survey; and over two years as a Research Associate for the Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit in the University of Idaho’s College of Forestry, Wildlife and Range Sciences as previous work experiences.

Dr. Miller received his Ph.D. in Leisure Studies, Recreation and Park Management from Pennsylvania State University. His studies at Penn State included Doctoral Minors in Statistics, Ecology and Forest Resources.

“We are very pleased Dr. Miller has agreed to join the faculty here at the Warnell School,” said Dean Richard Porterfield. “His experience teaching at LSU’s School of Renewable Natural Resources and his background in the Human Dimensions Research Program in Illinois will be a tremendous asset for the growing number of students inquiring about, and applying to the Warnell School’s new recreation and tourism program.”

Dr. Miller’s professional accomplishments to date include a Teacher of the Year award at the University of Idaho (which was awarded by the student chapters of The Wildlife Society, Range Society, Society of American Foresters and National Recreation and Parks Association), a scholarship to attend the World Leisure and Recreation Conference in Jaipur, India, and a Louisiana Sea Grant to assess public access to waterways around coastal Louisiana.
