Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources to Host International Gamebird Conference
The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia will be hosting Gamebird 2006: Managing Gamebirds in the 21st Century, at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education from May 31st to June 4th, 2006.
This will be a joint international conference for Quail VI and Perdix XII, which will be attended by gamebird management specialists from all six inhabited continents. Featured speakers at the conference will include:
- Don McKenzie, Director of the Northern Bobwhite Conservation Initiative (NBCI), which is supported by the Wildlife Management Institute in Washington D.C.;
- Dick Potts, Chairman of the World Pheasant Association and one of the leaders of modern gamebird management around the world;
- Lane Green, Director of the Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy in northern Florida, a cooperative partner in the NBCI;
- Tim Crowe, Associate Director of the Fitzpatrick Institute at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and the leading gamebird manager across the continent of Africa;
- Rocky Evans, National Director of Quail Unlimited.
“We are very pleased to have expert gamebird biologists from around the world attending this conference,” said John Carroll, Professor of Wildlife Ecology at the Warnell School and UGA’s representative in the NBCI. “This is the perfect opportunity to compare notes from around the world on how we are dealing with conservation issues and problems.”
It is expected that Don McKenzie will be announcing an important new role for Quail Unlimited in the NBCI during this conference.
