The Warnell School is excited to present the newest addition to its diverse array of study abroad programs beginning in the Spring 2007 Semester. The UGA Bulgaria Study Abroad and Service Learning Experience introduces students to the beautiful and historic country of Bulgaria. Bulgaria, poised to join the European Union in 2007, is a safe and unique country on the brink of transformation. The program will allow for the study the valuable natural and cultural resources of Bulgaria while traveling from the enticing capital city of Sofia to the majestic Central Balkan mountain range to the sunny coast of the Black Sea. An already amazing experience is expanded by incorporating a service-learning project into the class, allowing students to interact with local people and make a real difference in their communities.

Students will arrive in Bulgaria’s capital city, Sofia, where they will spend several days seeing the city, museums and historical sites and learning about Bulgaria’s history, environment and sustainable tourism initiatives, as well as socializing with local university students. They will then travel to Apriltsi via Kalofer, where students will be introduced to the Central Balkan National Park and local ecotourism programs. Students will spend several days in Apriltsi, a small and friendly village just outside the Central Balkan National Park, working on service learning projects within the community. Here students will have the opportunity to experience much of the magnificent natural beauty and cultural sites of Bulgaria, including the Shipka Pass. The group will then travel to Neseb_r, an historic village on the coast of the Black Sea, before returning to Sofia to complete the course and begin the departure home. Please visit the program website (www.uga.edu/bulgaria) for more information, including course details, full itinerary, and photographs!

Warnell also offers exciting study abroad and student exchange programs in South Africa, Brazil, Great Britain, and the South Pacific and Caribbean as well.

Maymester in South Africa introduces students to African natural resources and wildlife management, incorporating environmental studies, wildlife management, plant identification and uses of vegetation, biogeography, and local community issues. Additionally, students will earn a Game Ranging Certificate.

The Brazil Student Exchange Program trains students of Natural Resources Management in the characteristics and processes of tropical to temperate ecosystems, helps students become bilingual, experience the Brazilian culture, and make friends for life. The Warnell School helps some students facilitate all of this with scholarships.

Summer Study Abroad in Great Britain allows students to study how natural landscapes have influenced the culture, education, and literature of Great Britain through classes at Cambridge University and field travel to national parks, protected areas, and historic sites.

Studies Abroad in the South Pacific & Caribbean focus on how humans interact with the natural environment and how that relates to conservation, sustainable development, and human populations. This program offers students a wide variety of destinations--Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Antarctica, and Belize--and time-frames--Maymester, Summer, Spring and Fall semesters--to choose among.

Studying abroad and learning about the world around us gives students invaluable insight and experience in whatever direction they take after graduation. The faculty and administration of the Warnell School hopes you will join us for one of the most significant and memorable chapters of your college education: study abroad!
