Morgan's Report:
1. Andy Brantley & Duane Ritter from Human Resources spoke on several topics:
a. Fair Labor Standards Act changes: This basically covers the issue more commonly known as "Overtime." Approximately 50% of staff are eligible for OT and recent changes to OT rules are now being implemented here at UGA. It seems that the changes will not affect very many employees-BUT- this is a complicated issue and I cannot do justice to it here. b. Health Insurance update: The Legislature once again considered the possibility of merging the University System of Georgia Health Insurance with the State Merit System but decided not to do it this year. In general, opinions of those who understand this issue is that merging would not be the best choice. This issue may come up again next year and should be watched.
c. Job Classification update: This process is still going on. Do not worry if you have not received your letter about your job title. Some units have asked that HR wait until everyone in the unit is done before sending out notices to reduce confusion.
2. SECURITY: There was a reminder about personal information security. Many of the forms we fill out are now done online but, on occasion, we may be using paper forms that include our Social Security #'s. If you need to pass on paperwork that includes your personal information and it may be left in a public place (such as a mail folder), please consider putting it in a sealed envelope to protect yourself. Also, please consider all of the paperwork procedures followed in your office and make sure they are designed to protect personal information.
