Athens

“Look up ‘college town’ in a dictionary and you’ll likely find Athens included somewhere in the definition. Its legendary music scene spawned the B-52s and REM, and the town’s primary purpose is to cater to the 24,000 students who attend UGA. The town is chock full of terrific clubs, excellent restaurants, and fantastic coffeehouses. There are plenty of bars and pubs as well, and students call the college experience “great.” The UGA football team is usually nationally ranked, and the recreational sports facility “is without equal.” The other unifying force is the Greek system. Students admit that they party “a lot,” but they also study a great deal. There are over 400 student groups, so most students have no problem finding something interesting and fun to do. Obviously, school spirit runs unchecked at UGA.” This excerpt was taken from The Princeton Review.

Home of the University of Georgia, Athens, GA is ranked 34th in Quality of Life by ‘Cities Ranked and Rated.’ In 2003, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Athens as America’s #1 College Music Scene, and the New York Times named Athens “Live Music Central.” Situated among the three major provinces of the Southeast, the coastal plains, the piedmont, and the mountains, Athens provides access to numerous recreational and scenic areas. From music to art to the Tree that Owns Itself, attractions are available to suit every individual’s personality and taste. Click here to learn more about Athens.
