Scholarships

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources provides financial assistance to many students majoring in forest resources. Entering Pre-Professional or Professional students should indicate their interest in scholarships on the application for admissions. Currently enrolled professional program students wishing to apply for scholarships and awards for the next academic year (Fall and Spring semester) must turn in a resume by Feb. 1st to the Student service coordinator. PRE-PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

Forestry Alumni Scholarships

Awarded to entering freshman or pre-professional student based on academic achievement, evidence of leadership ability, professional goals, and personal references. One to three scholarships awarded annually.

C.M. Stripling Scholarship

Awarded to an entering freshman or rising sophomore based on grade point average, extra-curricular activities, honors, and workload.

PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

Forestry Alumni Fund Scholarships

Awarded to entering professional students based on scholastic achievement, evidence of leadership, maturity, and professional goals. Renewable for a second year. Several scholarships awarded annually.

William Tyler Ray Scholarships

Awarded to entering professional students based on GPA > 3.0, leadership abilities, maturity, financial need, and professional goals. Renewable for a second year. Several scholarships awarded annually.

Ben Meadows Scholarship

Awarded to a pre-professional or professional student based on financial need, extracurricular activities, professional potential, and part-time workload.

Arlene C. & Tilden L. Norris Fund

Awarded to an undergraduate student with interest in production forestry, financial need, and GPA > 3.0. Preference given to residents of South Georgia.

Georgia Forestry Association Scholarship

Awarded to an entering forestry professional student. GPA > 3.0.

Earl Jenkins Memorial Award

Awarded to a first year professional student with an appreciation for science and technology, as well as arts and literature.

Georgia Division, Society of American Foresters Award

Awarded to professional student with GPA > 3.0. Must be a member of SAF before consideration.

Southeastern Section, Society of American Foresters Award

Awarded to professional student with GPA ≥ 3.0. Must be a member of SAF before consideration.

Charles A. Leavell Scholarship

Awarded to a professional student majoring in Wildlife.

C.M. & Bernice Stripling Scholarship

Awarded to a professional student with a GPA > 2.5. Forestry or Wildlife major.

Gordie J. Yancey Scholarship

Awarded to a professional student primarily based on need.

E.E. Provost Scholarship

Awarded to a 2nd year professional student majoring in Wildlife or Fisheries & Aquaculture. Student must have a GPA > 3.0, be involved in professional activities, and have an interest in hunting and fishing.

Trout Unlimited Cold Water Fisheries Endowment Fund

Awarded to a professional student majoring in Fisheries and Aquaculture who has demonstrated interest in cold water fisheries

Knox and Kathryn Wyatt Memorial Scholoarship Fund

Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Water and Soil Resources, or Wildlife.

Rayonier Foundation Scholarship

Awarded to a 2nd year professional student majoring in Forestry. Recipient chosen by Rayonier Foundation.

Superior Pine Products Company Scholarship

Awarded to a 2nd year professional student. Award is based on GPA > 3.0 and professional activities. Preference given to Forestry majors and South Georgia residents.

Judith Fitzgerald Brooks Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to professional or graduate student with GPA > 3.0, demonstrated leadership, maturity & character, and interest in Sustainable Forest Production.

Fredrick William Kinard, Jr. Scholarship

Awarded to an academically qualified undergraduate or graduate student. Must have financial need as determined by UGA Student Financial Aid Office.

Martha Love May Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a professional undergraduate or graduate student. Award is based on GPA > 3.0 and extracurricular activities.

Archie E. Patterson Scholarship

Awarded to a professional or graduate student based on academic achievement (GPA > 3.0) and extracurricular activities.

Arnett C. and Ruth Mace Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a thrid year forestry student in the professional program with an interest in Sustainable Forest Management. GPA ≥ 3.3, active in professional organizations, and leadership potential. Preference given to residents of West Virginia.

Gerald B. and Charlotte A. Saunders Scholarship Fund

Recipient must be a third year student. Based on financial need and demonstrated desire to pursue graduate level achievement in forest resources.

International Paper Company Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student with GPA > 3.0. Preference will be given to individuals from groups that are underrepresented in the natural resources professions. Renewable.

MeadWestvaco Minority Scholarship

Awarded to minority students who have graduated from high school and are enrolled in an undergraduate Forest Resources program or who have an undergraduate degree and have been accepted into a graduate program.

William N. Thompson Distinguished Scholarship Award

Entering professional student majoring in Forestry. Based on financial need, demonstrated academic excellence, and a commitment to the practice of Forestry. Preference given to residents in areas surrounding Hazelhurst, Georgia.

Elmo C. Hester, Jr. Scholarship Fund

Awarded to students in the College of Agriculture and the School of Forest Resources on the basis of need and merit.

Loans

The Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources provides financial assistance enrolled in the School. Students interested in applying for loans may pick up an application from the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, room 1-203, (706) 542-4284.

Independent applications are required for the outside scholarships. Requirements and eligibility differ by scholarship and organization. Applications are normally available after January 1st due to most scholarships deadlines occuring in March. Applications may be obtained from the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, 1-203.

Spring Honors & Awards Banquet

The School honors its faculty and student scholarship and honors & awards winners once a year at the Spring Honors & Awards Banquet held every April at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Scholarship recipients are provided with the opportunity to meet with the scholarship donors, and both scholarship recipients and award winners have their pictures taken to be submitted to their local newspapers.
