Graduates from the School are employed in a variety of settings and positions across the United States and internationally. Fisheries Careers

Graduates of this program most often obtain employment in public agencies, private aquaculture ventures, environmental consulting firms, or conservation organizations. A high proportion of graduates continue their education, entering graduate programs in fisheries or ecology at academic institutions around the country.

WSFR Career Services

Volunteer, temporary, and permanent positions as well as internships are advertised through the School’s listserves, internship boards, jobs website, and through other placement services. These positions are advertised as a service to current and former students of the School. Placement assistance including resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, and other career related tips are offered as well. The School has designated a room as the Student Information Center (Building 1, Room 214A) that houses a career library, career resources, and interview room.

Internships

Intern Program

Internships provide students in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources with practical experiences in their area of study and introduces them to the professional world that they will encounter after graduation. Many employers seek interns through WSFR and choose to interview students here at the School.

Cooperative Education Programs

Cooperative education programs are valuable tools to students who wish to increase their work experience and job opportunities while still enrolled as a student. Coop programs are available with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Geological Survey.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service offers two cooperative education programs for students.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The Corps of Engineers hire students for temporary employment opportunities while students are attending the University. The Corps operates numerous campgrounds and picnic areas as well as participates in many natural resources and land management activities. U.S. Geological Survey, Georgia District

The Georgia District of the USGS is continuously looking for students to participate in Cooperative Education Programs. These programs provide students the necessary work experience for pursuing careers in related environmental fields, while still attending school. The Survey operates an extensive water resources gaging network and several urban water quality projects throughout Georgia. Students interested in enhancing formal education with useful work experience can obtain more information at the following links:

Temporary/Permanent Positions

Temporary and permanent vacancy announcements are provided through email as well as on the WSFR Career Website. In addition, many employers seek new employees through WSFR. It is important for students to use the resources available to them to learn about other position vacancies.

Employer Interviews

Many employers wish to interview WSFR students for internship, temporary, and/or permanent positions. When interviews will be conducted, email notifications as well as paper postings are placed around WSFR.
