“This Week at the Warnell School”/Warnell Week is a weekly information release providing significant news and events from the University of Georgia’s Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Events for the upcoming Week:
Dec. 14 – Jan. 4
(Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences, Events, Field Trips, etc.)

The Warnell School Holiday party for staff, faculty and retired faculty will be Friday, Dec. 14 at Flinchums beginning at 4:30pm. Games and door prizes will be provided along with wonderful holiday cuisine, so make sure to come kick-off your holiday celebrations with Warnell School family and friends.

Warnell School graduation ceremony for December graduates will be Sat., Dec. 15.  Students and their families are invited to attend the Warnell School's graduation ceremony followed by a reception in the courtyard and Building 4. The reception will begin about 30 minutes after the UGA undergraduate ceremony ends- around 12:00 noon. For more information contact Emily Saunders.

Winter Holidays Dec. 24 – Jan. 1

Spring semester (2008) begins Wednesday, January 2.

The Georgia State Board of Registration for Foresters re-elected W. Dale Greene, PhD as Chairman and John Britt as Vice Chairman for 2008 at its Dec. 5 meeting.

Research Findings/Outreach Service/Publications

Brant C. Faircloth, PhD student in John Carroll’s gamebird lab, will have his recently submitted article, “MSATCOMMANDER: detection of microsatellite repeat arrays and automated, locus-specific primer design,” published in the January 2008 edition of Molecular Ecology Resources.

Dr. Karl Miller’s FORS 4300/6300 (Management of Wildlife Habitats) class took a field trip to Tall Timbers Research Station, Apalachicola National Forest, Greenwood Plantation, and beyond a few weeks back.  Pictured with the class are Leon and Julie Neel at Greenwood Plantation.


Congratulations

Congratulations to Ali and Chris Gant for the birth of their twins on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Calder was 6 lbs and John David was 6 lbs and 11.5 oz. and word is mother and father are happy and well. 

 

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at The University of Georgia provides UGA students with five degree path programs in forestry and natural resource science and management, include the forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, natural resources recreation and tourism, water and soil resources, and wildlife management and ecology majors.
