Events for the upcoming Week: Feb. 1-10
(Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences, Events, Field Trips, etc.)
Dr. Peter Brothers, wildlife veterinarian and safari tour guide from South Africa, will speak at the UGA Vet College, 6:30pm Friday, Feb. 1 and 10:00am Saturday, Feb. 2nd. Dr. Brothers will talk about African wildlife biology, disease and conservation as well as park management. The lectures will be at the UGA Vet school, room H-237.
The next Ecology Seminar will feature Lawrence Pomeroy, UGA Odum School of Ecology, discussing "The Two Ecologies as Viewed Underwater." This seminar is scheduled for Tuesday, February 5 at 4:00pm in the Ecology auditorium.
The NRRT Society will hold its next meeting Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 to 6:45pm in room 1-304. For more information email Allison Ginn.
The next Forestry Club meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 6:45 to 8:00pm in room 1-304. For more information email Dustin Evans.
The next Thursday Seminar (Feb. 7) will feature Dr. Paul Ferraro, associate professor in the Department of Economics at Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Senior Science Fellow at the World Wildlife Fund and a member of Global Environment Facility's Science Advisory Panel. His lecture will be “The effectiveness of the US endangered species act.” Lecture begins at 4:00pm in room 1-304.

The Warnell School will host the 2008 Southeastern Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (SEPARC) annual meeting February 21-23 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. A schedule for the meeting, including list of symposium speakers and topics, workshops, poster titles and field trips is available at the SEPARC website.

The Center for Forest Business continues its successful series of forestland investment conferences with International Forest Investment: An Executive Education Conference. The conference will be held at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich, Germany on February 22, 2008. For more information visit the conference website.
The UGA chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual spring banquet Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Flinchums. Doors open at 6:30pm, and dinner begins at 7:00pm. The Warnell School Graduate Student Symposium will be Thursday & Friday, Feb. 28 & 29. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the research interests of Warnell School students and participate in a silent auction to raise funds for the School’s graduate Student Association. “Awards/Appointments”
Alison Price, fisheries graduate student, has been chosen by the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society as the recipient of the 2008 Jimmie Pigg Memorial Outstanding Student Achievement Award. The award is given to a student who is truly outstanding in research, education and professional endeavors.
Warnell School students made a strong showing at the 2008 meeting of the Georgia Chapter of the American Fisheries Society earlier this week. Best student presentation awards were:
1st place - Kevin McAbee (Nibbelink lab)
2nd place - Allison Price (J. Peterson lab)
3rd place - Russell Parr (undergraduate, Shelton lab)
