The Bulgaria Study Abroad & Service Learning Program will have a reception and presentations Friday, January 18th, beginning at 5:30 PM at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. The session will be held in the auditorium of the Visual Arts Building, Lamar Dodd School of Art on Jackson Street. The new course on Bulgarian Art History will be introduced with information and discussion about the course: Natural and Cultural Resources Based Tourism in Bulgaria.
These 6-semester-credit-hour courses will be offered during the first 2008 summer short session (6-29 June 2008). The new Art History course will be fully implemented in 2009. These courses are open to all majors and meet several requirements of students' study plans.
New Student Lunch will be Tuesday, January 22 from 11:30am to 1:00pm in the Warnell School courtyard. All Warnell Faculty, Staff, and Students are invited to this free lunch in honor of the new incoming students. Sponsored by Warnell student clubs and organizations.
The Warnell Graduate Student Association will meet Tuesday, January 22 from 6:00-8:30pm at Las Conchitas Restaurant. For directions and information email GSA President Kate Spear. Discussion will be held on upcoming graduate symposium.
The next Forestry Club meeting will be Wednesday, January 23 from 4:00-7:00pm at Flimchum’s. Fellowship and conclave practice will begin at 4:00pm on the field above Flinchum’s and then the grill will fire-up about 5:30pm. Anyone interested in learning more about forestry conclave are invited to come try some events. For more information email chapter president Dustin Evans.
The UGA Fisheries Society has scheduled its first meeting of the year in partnership with the Ichthyology course on Wednesday, January 23rd at 5:00pm in the Ecology Auditorium. Business discussions will cover Project WET outreach scheduling, a vote on bylaw changes, and the upcoming GA state meeting. Two episodes of the Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series, "Freshwaters" and "Shallow Seas" will also be presented. Popcorn, drinks and snacks are on the menu.
The next “Thursday Seminar” (1/24) will be the final lecture in the three part series and will feature Dr. Rhett Jackson discussing "The Eternal Conflict Between Parameter Parsimony and Full Stream Representation: Examples from Stream Geomorphology and Hydrology." Refreshments served at 3:30pm and lecture begins at 4:00pm in room 1-304 of the Warnell School.
Warnell student resume workshop will be held Thursday, January 24 from 6:00-8:00pm in room 1-304. Christie Sanders from the UGA Career Center will help students construct resumes just in time for scholarship applications. Food and drinks will be provided at 5:30pm.
The UGA student chapter of SAF will travel to the Gainesville office of the U.S. Forest Service to meet with the Oconee SAF Chapter Thursday, January 24. The meeting will feature a program on Conservation Easements and Forest Management, with BBQ Dinner before the program (6:00pm). Anyone interested in attending and learning more about SAF should email Amanda Newman by Monday, Jan. 21.
UGA welcomes Jerry Schnoor, engineering professor and co-director of the Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research at the University of Iowa, as speaker on Thursday, January 24, in the ongoing engineering seminar series, “Innovations at the Interface.” Sponsored by the Faculty of Engineering, Schnoor's seminar will be held in room 248 of the Student Learning Center at 4:00pm.
The 5th Annual Chili Cook-off, sponsored by The Wildlife Society, will be held Friday, January 25th at Flinchum's Phoenix. Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door. It is $5 to enter a chili dish. Tickets can be purchased from Barbara Trotter at the front desk. Questions can be addressed to TWS chapter secretary Hayden Patterson.

The first on campus SAF student chapter meeting of 2008 will be Tuesday, January 28 at 6:30pm in room 1-304. Topic of discussion and a slideshow will feature fellow member’s trips to SAF national convention in Oregon this past fall. In addition, Nathan McClure from the GA Forestry Commission and the former Oconee Chapter SAF secretary/treasurer will be speaking on the importance of SAF to students and the benefits of being a member. The Warnell Student Ambassadors are invited to the Annual GFA Legislative lunch at the Capitol on Wednesday, January 30 (all day event). Ambassadors will first tour the capitol building and then assist GFA members in hosting the lunch for Georgia's representatives and legislative professionals. Email Emily Saunders for more information.
The next TWS chapter meeting will be Wednesday, January 30 at 6:45-8:00pm in room 1-304. Discussion topic TBD.

Dr. Bruce Borders, professor of biometrics and mensuration, was one of ten UGA faculty recognized Thursday, Jan. 18 at the annual Student Government Association Professor Recognition Banquet held at the Georgia Museum of Art. The purpose of the Professor Recognition Banquet is to honor excellence in teaching at the University of Georgia. He was nominated by students of the Warnell School and chosen by the UGA Student Government Association.
