ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
APPLIED FOREST ECOLOGY

 Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources

POSITION:  This is a tenure-track, 12-month, 50% teaching, 50% research appointment.  This position reports directly to the Dean of the Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (WSFNR).  We seek an applied forest ecologist with expertise and research interests in one or more of these subject areas: hardwood silviculture, entomology, pathology, fire ecology or invasive species. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree, and at least one degree in forestry (preferred) or a related natural resources field.  Evidence of research productivity and the potential to attract external research funding is required.  Candidates must have an ability and willingness to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a research program capable of attracting graduate students and significant external funding in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will teach an average of three classes per year, to include an undergraduate course in the Ecology of Natural Resources and a graduate course in their area of expertise.  Candidates must be committed to collaborating with diverse groups within and outside of the university including students, faculty, state and federal natural resource agencies, forest industry and other private sector entities.  The candidate also is expected to advise undergraduate students, direct graduate students, serve on School and University committees, and actively participate in professional and/or scientific societies. 

THE UNIVERSITY:  The University of Georgia is a land grant/sea grant institution comprised of 16 schools and colleges.  Enrollment is 33,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.  The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is a professional school with 54 faculty, 200 undergraduates, and 160 graduate students.  The School offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Forest Resources, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.  Majors in the School include forestry, fisheries, natural resources recreation and tourism, water and soil resources, and wildlife.  The School has a 740-acre forest <10 minutes from campus and 23,000 acres of forestland across the state for teaching and research.
