UGA Team Wins Southeastern Wildlife Conclave

Document Actions
The UGA Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society achieved ultimate success at this year’s annual Southeastern Wildlife Conclave held over Spring Break, winning both the coveted Quiz Bowl competition and the overall competition. The Conclave was hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin and held at Paris Landing State Park in northwestern Tennessee.

The team won first place overall out of 20 southeastern Wildlife Schools.  Among the many Conclave events, one of the most prestigious and most important is the Quiz Bowl competition, where a four person team competes against teams from other schools for the Quiz Bowl trophy.  This year's team members were Ami Flowers, Emily Brown, Jason Kinsey, and team captain Josh Parris.  Their quest for the trophy was successful, as they went undefeated through both days of competition, beating Haywood Community College in the Final Round.

Also vital to winning the overall Conclave is the team competition.  Typically, a course of 15-20 stations (of various specimens, equipment, etc.) are set up outside, and each team (made up of everyone from the school in attendance) must run from station to station and answer as many questions at each station as possible.  This year, the UGA team won the team competition as well.

In the individual skill competitions, Ami Flowers won first place in the dendrology competition and second place in color photography.  UGA team members competed in Archery, Trap Shooting, Radio Telemetry, Orienteering, Obstacle Course and Canoeing, and finished strong in each event.

Congratulations to all of the UGA competitors, who once again did a fine job representing the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at this year's Wildlife Conclave.  The team would like to thank all of the faculty and staff who supported them and devoted countless hours to preparing and coaching the team.
